2025 is going to be an exciting year in the City of Woodbury I want to take this opportunity to tell you about our strategic priorities and key projects for the new year every two years the city council reserves time for studying emerging critical issues facing Woodbury the council identifies two or three high priority Focus areas staff then designates an implementation team and reports to the council at least once a year there strategic issues for the 2025 through 2028 eight cycle are drinking water and water treatment implementation water quality efficiency has been a strategic focus of the city council every year since 2015 this initiative focuses on the future of woodberry's drinking water quality treatment processes and the financial sustainability of the water supply system a few priorities of this initiative are to continue to work on the Water Treatment Plant and complete construction of Associated Water Treatment pipelines complete a water rate and analysis to finance new water treatment plant operating costs and to fund portions of the water treatment plant Capital project not supported by the state settlement with 3m improve water use efficiency by reducing Residential Water use by 10% per capita by 2035 based on an established multi-year rolling average public safety is another strategic priority in 2025 our success requires that the safety of the community and Public Safety Services be continually evaluated adjusted and enhanced to meet the needs of the changing and growing Community this is a continuation of the last two Public Safety strategic initiatives that include the following areas of focus enhance Recruitment and Retention of personnel while continuing to incorporate social workers with law enforcement to enhance mental health and crisis response ensure the public safety building expansion and remodel project aligns with both current and future Community growth and service needs and temporarily relocate the Public Safety Services during construction to allow for uninterrupted Service delivery we also want to continue enhancing our connections with the community to support the Public Safety Services we provide evaluate Staffing and operational and funding levels necessary to support a growing and changing community and changing demands on Public Safety professionals leverage technology to achieve better crime prevention and education crime tracking case management and resolution environmental stewardship is also a key strategic priority for the city council this initiative focuses on bringing to life the vision and goals outlined in the new environmental stewardship plan or ESP which was formally adopted by the city council at its December 11th meeting alongside the ESP a 2-year road map has been developed incorporating Community feedback and priorities staff will focus on identifying and expanding key actions to begin in the first two years continuous evaluation and refinement will be critical to achieving the plan's objectives every two years staff will collaborate with the parks and Natural Resources Commission to update and adjust the road map additional performance metrics will be integrated into a website dashboard allowing community members to follow along more formal measures will be reviewed annually by the city council other current and upcoming projects and initiatives worth highlighting including the anticipated public launch of our new destination marketing organization called destination Woodburry in the second quarter of 2025 the reopening of the Central Park and Lookout Ridge indoor playground in the fall of 2025 and the ongoing design work for the expanded and remodeled Public Safety campus I'll be touching on many more items in my annual state of the city presentation which will be shared with you through a video in March as we look forward to an eventful 2025
