[0:06] Today we're going to talk about, [0:08] when to water and when to pick. [0:12] It is recommended that each plot [0:15] get one inch of water a week. [0:17] Any more than that's probably not necessary [0:20] and so we've installed a rain gauge here at the garden. [0:23] We also have six [0:24] spigots here in the garden and we recommend hand watering. [0:28] And so the gardeners [0:30] can walk around, check out the dampness soil. [0:33] And they can look [0:34] at their vegetables to see if they're stressed, [0:36] if they're starting to will [0:37] turning a little yellow on the edges [0:39] and they know that [0:40] they're not watering enough, that signals it's time to water. [0:44] Get a question quite often as to when to pick the vegetables. [0:48] Let's take a eggplant an eggplant can get very big, [0:52] but the seeds get bigger. [0:54] When to optimize so that it's the right color, [0:56] but also that, the seeds haven't gotten so big [1:00] that they're going to interfere with the quality of the plant. [1:03] It's the same with a zucchini. [1:04] A zucchini can get this big or get that big. [1:07] This big is optimal because the seeds are small. [1:11] You can eat the whole plant. [1:12] So most people think bigger is better. [1:15] But a lot of times what you want is optimize that. [1:19] Small to medium size is much better.
