[0:09] My Girl Scout Silver [0:10] project is installing a Dero Bike Fix-It station [0:14] by the Park Pavilion at Powers Lake Park. [0:23] I chose the bike repair station [0:26] because my dad had a heart attack in November, [0:30] and I heard the cardiologist talking how he needed to do [0:34] a low impact sport, and biking was one of those. [0:38] And then I remembered how I broke my chain and didn't [0:42] have anything to repair it with on a ride once, and I was like, [0:45] people need to be able to fix their bike on the trails. [0:49] So I talked to Reed at Parks and Rec and asked [0:55] if we could put in a bike fix station [0:59] at Powers Lake. [1:07] Being a mom, [1:08] hands down and my kids are by far [1:11] the greatest accomplishment I've ever had in my entire life. [1:14] And when they do things like this that have tangible impact, [1:18] it makes your heart just swell with pride and excitement [1:22] to see them be so excited and energized and happy. [1:26] But as a troop leader, it's really exciting [1:30] to see young women learn how to just persevere. [1:40] I have had a few flats while out riding, [1:42] and one of these would have been a lot easier [1:45] than tipping my bike upside down. [1:46] Trying to change a flat tire for sure. [1:48] So this is fantastic. [1:49] The repair stand will benefit riders around the community [1:53] because if they're going out riding, [1:55] they have that sense of security. [1:56] Knowing that if something should happen, [1:59] they know that there is a repair stand nearby. [2:02] There's a QR code on it that they can scan [2:03] that's going to help them assist with any repair they have. [2:06] And they just have the comfort of riding kind of worry free. [2:14] I hope that people use it when they are [2:18] in their time of need, where a chain breaks or bike tire pops [2:23] and you just need a quick fix, or even your tire goes flat. [2:27] We have a pump on the station, which is really helpful. [2:31] She definitely had a lot of hurdles thrown at her. [2:34] Life throws curveballs. [2:36] Her dad had a heart attack. [2:38] A lot of people would have just [2:40] called it quits at that point, but instead it inspired her. [2:43] She is quite an inspiration to, I think, her own family, [2:46] her peers, other Girl Scouts and those around her.
