[0:02] I was a consumer a lot of my life like
[0:04] I'm 50 years old and probably the first
[0:06] half of my life it was all about me and
[0:09] there was this kind of shift in my life
[0:11] that it's not all about what you can
[0:13] consume it's about how you're going to
[0:15] live in this world and how you're going
[0:16] to interact in this world and for me
[0:18] every day as we started to do it a
[0:20] little bit more it just changes you when
[0:22] you see things in this world you can't
[0:25] unsee them and you're just going to
[0:26] react differently when you put other
[0:28] people in front of yourself
[0:30] hope is really about bringing families
[0:33] together starting conversations having
[0:35] these over-the-top kind of Pancakes and
[0:38] coffees and drinks we call our our
[0:40] breakfast the Disneyland of breakfast to
[0:43] us when families come together over a
[0:45] meal it's the best thing in the world so
[0:47] we really wanted to have breakfast items
[0:50] that would make you talk and create
[0:53] conversation I think people come here
[0:55] because when you walk in a hope it just
[0:57] feels different there's not a lot of
[0:58] restaurants that ask you to share your
[1:00] hopes and prayers and dreams you see
[1:02] lots of inspirational signs that say
[1:04] believe every painting in our restaurant
[1:06] tells a story of somebody that's done
[1:09] something amazing in the world and I
[1:10] think guests and consumers now choose
[1:13] where they're going to dine and they
[1:15] choose where they're going to spend
[1:16] their money and I think they want to
[1:18] make sure that restaurants are in
[1:19] alignment with their core values and
[1:22] it's really the most important thing
[1:23] that we
[1:24] do so hope and prayer cards we just
[1:26] invite everybody they're on every table
[1:28] it just says we don't care what you
[1:30] believe we believe in you if you read
[1:32] some of them it's I want a unicorn and
[1:35] you'll see others that talk about
[1:36] tragedy maybe you don't have an outlet
[1:38] at home but people will share just
[1:41] lifechanging things with us and it gives
[1:43] us as a family opportunity to pray over
[1:46] these cards it's really how we connect
[1:49] with our community when they share with
[1:51] us we like to use those and go out and
[1:53] change the
[1:54] community it kind of speaks to everyone
[1:56] and that's I think that's the goal with
[1:59] they being so much Community orientation
[2:01] here so it's just inviting I think one
[2:04] of the biggest things that we have loved
[2:05] about it is even the whole prayer cards
[2:08] because it's a great way to just write
[2:10] out some of the feelings that you have
[2:12] knowing that there's an opportunity for
[2:13] people you'll never meet to pray for
[2:15] them and so that's been a cool part of
[2:16] the mission some people are more
[2:18] fortunate than others and I feel like
[2:20] it's as a society it's always good to
[2:23] give back to those that don't have much
[2:25] you helping others like not directly but
[2:28] like indirectly at the same time
[2:30] [Music]
[2:33] since
[2:34] 2019 we've fed over 500,000 people free
[2:38] of charge every week still face to face
[2:40] picks up Meals twice a week for homeless
[2:42] youth it's how we reach out to our
[2:44] community people will share things like
[2:47] that they have needs for meals or that
[2:49] they have financial needs and being a
[2:51] business where we can help with those
[2:53] needs means everything so a percentage
[2:55] of our sales it just really depends on
[2:57] the need we've closed our restaurants
[2:59] and use them 100% as Community Kitchens
[3:02] there are days when it calls for 100% of
[3:04] our sales then there are just our
[3:06] ongoing giving so the percentage varies
[3:09] depending on what's going on in the
[3:12] world so about a week before the
[3:15] government shut down schools had started
[3:17] shutting down so we posted a thing that
[3:19] said any family in need please come to
[3:21] Hope and get a free meal I think over
[3:24] the weekend we had over 10,000 requests
[3:26] so I had to sit with my wife and our
[3:28] staff and say we're going to close our
[3:30] restaurant and turn into a Community
[3:32] Kitchen we can't possibly operate and we
[3:34] were feeding anywhere from 5 to 10,000
[3:37] people every single day and we did that
[3:39] all throughout Co I had a son that was
[3:42] in his senior year of high school heard
[3:44] all of his friends talking about no prom
[3:47] no graduation so we did a drive-thru
[3:49] prom and we had hundreds and hundreds of
[3:51] kids a lot of them had to socially
[3:54] distance so their dates that they hadn't
[3:56] seen in months pulled up in their family
[3:59] car got out with their masks on was all
[4:02] outside was heartbreaking but it was
[4:04] really great so many of these kids got
[4:06] to have a prom that would have never had
[4:07] a
[4:11] prom the world is a really really
[4:13] difficult place and we really want our
[4:15] restaurants to interact differently in
[4:17] how this world is and with addiction and
[4:20] with recovery the hospitality industry
[4:23] is notorious for drugs addiction mental
[4:26] health we have so many people that are
[4:28] in recovery and battling addiction and
[4:31] we really want to react differently in
[4:33] this world and make our restaurants a
[4:35] place where people can come work and
[4:38] have that safe great work
[4:40] environment come in check all the stress
[4:43] and all the madness of Life check it at
[4:45] the door come in here and just turn your
[4:48] brain off for an hour and come in and
[4:50] enjoy
