The Woodbury City Council announced several new initiatives at its May meeting aimed at environmental conservation and water management, including a rebate program to help residents replace trees killed by emerald ash borer disease.

The city introduced a tree rebate program designed to financially assist residents in replacing dead or diseased trees on private property. According to city representatives, the program directly addresses Woodbury's tree canopy loss caused by emerald ash borer disease, an invasive pest that has devastated ash trees across the region. The initiative reflects the city's commitment to ecological preservation and maintaining the community's green spaces.

In addition to the tree program, the council reminded residents about existing lawn watering restrictions and promoted a water conservation initiative. Residents are permitted to water lawns on only two designated days per week and are prohibited from watering between noon and 5 p.m., even on their designated irrigation days. Property owners with irrigation systems installed before 2020 who haven't previously participated in the city's Smart Irrigation Controller Program are encouraged to purchase discounted controllers for $35 to help reduce water consumption.

The council also announced details for Woodbury's annual Memorial Day ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Woodbury Lion's Veterans Memorial near City Hall. Residents should be aware that Valley Creek Road will experience significant closures during the event, with City Center Drive serving as the only access route to City Hall. The ceremony will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

To help residents stay informed about city news and updates, the council promoted the city's "InTouch" email notification service, describing it as an easy way to receive important announcements. The city encouraged community members to sign up for the service to improve communication between city government and residents.
