Woodbury plans July 4th celebration, seeks election judges
The Woodbury City Council shared updates on upcoming community events and initiatives at its June meeting, including details on the city's Independence Day celebration and a push to recruit election officials for the upcoming primary and general elections.
The city announced plans for its 4th of July Hometown Celebration at M Health Fairview Sports Center, featuring live country music, bounce houses, food trucks, and a chance to meet city officials. Due to ongoing construction, activities will take place at the green fields this year instead of the gold fields, with fireworks scheduled for 10 p.m.
Along with the holiday festivities, the city issued a reminder about Minnesota's fireworks laws. State law prohibits the sale, possession, and use of fireworks that fly or explode, including firecrackers and bottle rockets. Woodbury is actively recruiting election judges to staff polling locations for the primary election's early voting period beginning June 28th, as well as for primary and general election days. The city also provided an update on its Water Treatment Plant and Pipelines Project, which held a public open house on May 22nd. The initiative aims to construct a new water treatment plant to permanently address PFAs contamination—a water quality concern—and install 17 new miles of water main pipe throughout the city.
Finally, Woodbury is gathering community input on recreation and educational programs for older adults and seniors, as well as plans for a dedicated senior space at Central Park. The city is hosting "Coffee, Cookies and Conversation" events where residents can share their ideas and connect with neighbors.
