Wright County Extends Community Corrections Transition Date
The Wright County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved extending the transition date for community corrections services from Oct. 31 to Nov. 10, 2025, during their meeting Tuesday.
County Attorney Loots told commissioners the Department of Corrections stopped transferring information to court services due to a dispute over responsibility for employee vacation and sick time payments. The issue affects 11 employees interested in becoming county employees as part of the transition to a community corrections model.
The board also authorized retaining outside legal counsel from John Edison's law firm to potentially pursue litigation against the Department of Corrections if the payment dispute cannot be resolved. Loots said his office has already engaged Edison, who wrote a letter to the Department of Corrections outlining the county's position.
In other business, commissioners recognized retiring Health and Human Services employee Terry Novachek, who completed 10 years with Wright County and 35 years in child welfare work. Director Jamie Goodram praised Novachek's dedication to families involved in child protection cases.
The board also conducted a public hearing on establishing a Lake Crawford Lake Improvement District. Four residents spoke in favor of the proposal, citing benefits including weed control, water quality monitoring and improved property values. Commissioners will vote on the district's creation at their Oct. 21 meeting.
