The Wright County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a $1.15 million building at 311 Brighton Avenue in Buffalo during their March 18 meeting, along with moving forward on a household hazardous waste facility reconstruction project.

The Brighton Avenue property currently houses the Wright County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, a federal agency that provides agricultural services to Wright and parts of Hennepin counties. The board approved entering a 90-day due diligence period for the purchase, which will be funded through the county's general fund balance.

Commissioners also approved recommendations from the Ways and Means Committee regarding the household hazardous waste facility, including accepting most bid packages while rebidding the electrical component. The project will be funded through $1.2 million in general funds, previously designated as American Rescue Plan funds, according to the discussion.

The board established a cooperative agreement with the City of Buffalo related to the sale of government center property and awarded contracts for annual road striping and seal coating work. Contract 253 for striping services came in at approximately $725,000, within the budgeted $800,000, while seal coating contract 252 was approved with funding from increased state aid revenue.

Central Minnesota Jobs and Training Services presented an update on their workforce development programs, reporting they served 332 Wright County residents in the most recent program year. The organization operates throughout 11 central Minnesota counties and provides services to both job seekers and businesses, including on-the-job training programs and incumbent worker training.
