Wright County Board Recognizes Farm Family, Approves Health Plan
The Wright County Board of Commissioners recognized the Mer family as the 2025 Farm Family of the Year during their June 3 meeting, honoring a seventh-generation farming operation that has worked the land since 1856.
The Modern Family farm near Delano operates a dairy operation, raises beef cattle, grows row crops and produces commercial maple syrup. The family will be recognized at the county fair's blue ribbon auction and at the statewide recognition program at Farmfest.
The board also approved the county's community health improvement plan for 2025-2028, identifying three priority areas: access to care, economic stability and social connectedness. The plan, developed in partnership with Buffalo Hospital and Centria Care, noted Wright County has one primary care physician for every 2,540 residents, about twice the state average.
Commissioners approved contract 254 for the Casai Bridge replacement project, funded with state gas tax funds, with construction expected to begin after July 4. The board also set a public hearing for June 24 at 9:30 a.m. regarding a local option sales tax proposal.
Carl Dubanks from the Initiative Foundation reported the organization has awarded 555 grants totaling $4.7 million in Wright County since 1986, with every dollar collected generating $12.86 in return investment to the county.
