Okay. So, next we're going to call up students from Somerset Elementary along with the Somerset School Counselor and Dean of Students, Jesselyn Carcinia. Come on up. So, uh, while they're coming up, I'll tell you that the, uh, students from Somerset are here tonight to be recognized for hosting another successful kindness day. Uh, and I'll do a quick introduction to kindness day. Uh, and then Miss Kay will introduce the students and tell us more about this day. So last month, Somerset Elementary held its eighth kindness day. Wow, that time flies. Uh a tradition that turns Valentine's Day into an opportunity for students to give back in meaningful ways. In uh in partnership with doing good together, students rotated through hands-on service stations, uh supporting local organizations and creating birthday cards for people serving people. uh to assembling care items for neighborhood house and enrichment materials for the uh animal humane society. So kindness day gives students the opportunity to experience the joy and helping others while making a real impact in our community. It's a wonderful example of how of helping students grow not only academically but as compassionate engaged citizens. So Miss K, I'd invite you to introduce the students and share a few words about this work >> or hop in there. >> This is Jack and he's very ready to talk. >> Okay. Can you say what grade you're in? >> I'm in second grade. >> And my name is Jack. >> Um, I'm in fourth grade and my name is Penelopey. >> My name is Audrey. I'm in kindergarten. My name is Violet and I'm in third grade. >> My name is Theo and I am third grade and we are here tonight to talk about our annual kindness day and all that we do on this special day of the year. Um, as you said, we're on our eighth year and what that means is we are with buddy classrooms and we have passports and as a as your buddy go together to all these six different lo stations and we made slime this year. We made ping pongs for cat toys. Like we did a lot of fun stations and it's really fun get a little it's just really neat to watch them go together and work together and it's part of our culture now at Somerset. It's what we do. So >> wonderful. >> Love it. >> Give him a round of applause for being for >> questions for our Somerset crew. >> I if I could uh it was short the year after I came to the district that this started and I've enjoyed it. I haven't been able to make it every year, but most years. It's just a wonderful thing to see how um engaged the students are, engaged the adults are that come and help out as well. It's and it does really uh put a nice twist on >> what would be a typical Valentine's Day to really focusing outwards and and and on others and helping. So, I just I appreciate the work that's happened. >> We even had Channel 5 come this year and interview us. So, it's pretty cool. >> Yeah. Thanks. >> Go ahead, Morgan. Could I ask all of you to tell me what your favorite part of kindness day is? >> My favorite part of kindness day was probably getting to make birthday cards for people who don't get any. >> Awesome. My favorite part of kindness day is probably um like um giving back what um like just making stuff for other people who don't have really anything. So, spreading cheer to other people. My favorite part of kindness day is when we're making like all this stuff. I like to think um how I'm helping others. Um, I just like how everyone works together in projects that help people. Um, show that they can be kind >> as much as we can be kind as that everyone should get the love that they deserve. >> Okay, go ahead. these cars now. I think it's been longer than eight years that you all have been doing this because my kids were there before eight years >> ago. So you were always planting the seeds meaning that's who Somerset is and a lot of that comes from that's who you are and you're such a blessing >> to the Somerset community and you know the impact that you've had on on our own family and oops sorry and the the whole community at large and the way that I've seen students and these students here recognize the importance of giving and the importance of love to a community um just makes us very proud that that you're in our district and that >> you're Somerset stars.
