[0:00] I'm Kelly Pine senior Watershed [0:02] specialist with the Vermillion River [0:03] Watershed and here to give you an update [0:05] on the results from the invasive fish [0:07] removals we conducted on East Lake this [0:09] year in 2023 The Watershed in City [0:12] received a grant to implement a low [0:14] voltage barrier to stop migration of [0:16] invasive carpon goldfish into and out of [0:19] East Lake the grant also included 2 [0:22] years of invasive fish removals 2024 was [0:25] the first year of fish removals methods [0:27] of removals included electrofishing and [0:30] B baited box Nets taking place from [0:32] April through September this year of [0:34] removals was very successful with a [0:36] total of [0:37] 2,798 lbs of carpon goldfish removed [0:40] bringing the the lake invasive fish [0:42] biomass down to 89.9 lb per acre which [0:45] is below the 100 lb per acre Mark at [0:48] which negative water quality impacts are [0:50] seen removals will continue in 2025 [0:53] using Grant dollars in future years [0:56] staff have discussed additional measures [0:58] to improve water quality in the lake [1:00] including native aquatic plant [1:01] transplanting and stocking of predatory [1:04] fish to increase the recreational value [1:06] of the lake for more information on this [1:09] project as well as other Vermillion [1:11] River Watershed projects visit [1:13] Vermillion rerw watershed dorg [1:18] [Music]
