The Lakeville Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary plat Thursday for Dakota Electric Association's new headquarters facility, moving the project forward to the March 3 city council meeting for final approval.
The development, called Airlake DEA Second Edition, involves a one-lot subdivision east of Cedar Avenue and north of 225th Street. Dakota Electric plans to construct a 176,500-square-foot multi-use building that will house offices, warehouse space and storage facilities.

"Our hope is that as this goes through the process that we could start construction yet late spring summer and then it's a 2-year build and so by summer of 2027 that we would be moving into a new headquarters facility.
The commission approved the plat with 10 stipulations outlined in the planning report. Senior Planner Heather Boton told commissioners the proposed building and site improvements comply with setback requirements and zoning code standards for the industrial district.
Employee and visitor access will come from 225th Street to the south, while construction and fleet vehicles will use the future 222nd Street to the north. Dakota Electric will need to submit a separate administrative permit for fuel storage tanks planned for the site's western boundary.
