The Lakeville City Council approved several ordinance amendments during its June 16 meeting, including stricter dog leash requirements and expanded social host liability for cannabis.

The council removed voice control as an acceptable alternative to leashing dogs in city parks. Under the previous ordinance, dogs could be off-leash if under voice command. The Parks Department will establish designated training areas in specific parks where off-leash work will be permitted, with implementation set for July 7.

Council members also expanded the city's social host ordinance to include cannabis alongside existing alcohol provisions. The change follows state legalization of cannabis and holds property owners liable for underage consumption on their premises.

Additionally, the council approved an ordinance allowing city staff to post no-fishing signs at certain storm water ponds following complaints about impacts to neighboring homeowners. The council also approved vacation of a drainage and utility easement at the Amelia Meadows development that was no longer needed after the final plat approval.

Paul Cause, representing the Paniprog Festival board, updated the council on the 58th annual festival running July 4-13. New events include disc golf at Living Waters and Touch a Truck on Holyoke Avenue, with several activities moved outside downtown to expand the festival footprint.
