Lakeville Police Introduce New UTV for Specialized Operations
The Lakeville Police Department has added a new Polaris Ranger utility terrain vehicle to its fleet, purchased through a grant from the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation.
Lieutenant Jason Haidider, who oversees the patrol division's fleet, introduced the specialized vehicle during a recent presentation. The UTV is designed for search and rescue operations, community engagement events and public safety activities, not routine patrol duties.
This is not a patrol vehicle," Haidider said. "You won't see it driving around on the road other than getting from point A to B for police purpose. This is not a routine patrol vehicle to make traffic stops.
The department equipped the vehicle with specialized accessories including a 7,000-lumen light bar and side flood lights for search missions in areas such as Ritter Farm Park. The UTV features full street-legal equipment including turn signals, brake lights and mirrors, along with a siren and PA speakers. The fully enclosed vehicle includes HVAC and can transport up to six people.
The police department planned to deploy the UTV at Panrog weekend events, including the dog show, police canine demonstration, cruise night and parade. Haidider expressed gratitude for the partnership with the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation, which also works with the Lakeville Fire Department.
