Bloomington residents who have signed up for the city's curbside or drop-off organics recycling programs can pick up free compost on Saturday, May 10th. Each eligible participant will receive three 40-pound bags of compost — enough material for most home gardeners to refresh their yards or garden beds.

To participate, residents must register by Wednesday, May 7th. Pickup will happen at the city's western maintenance facility in one-hour time slots assigned during registration. This staggered approach helps manage traffic and wait times at the facility.

The compost giveaway is part of Bloomington's broader effort to support residents who are already composting their food scraps and yard waste. By returning finished compost to these participants, the city closes the loop on its organics recycling program, turning what residents put in their green bins back into a useful product.
