Bloomington Aquatic Center Opening Delayed Due to Pipe Leak
The opening of the Bloomington Family Aquatic Center has been postponed indefinitely after crews discovered a pipe leak beneath the main pool surface. The facility was originally scheduled to open June 9th, but city maintenance crews are now working to complete repairs with no firm reopening date established.
Meanwhile, the city's search for a new city manager continues with applications being accepted through June 16th. The search firm Mosaic will review applications the week of June 16th, and the City Council will convene June 23rd to review and advance candidates for interviews.
The city is also conducting its 2025 National Community Survey, developed by the National Research Center to assess residents' views on livability, services and quality of life. The survey, which began in May, remains open to all community members through June 24th, with final results expected in July. Bloomington has participated in the annual survey since 2012.
Two major community celebrations are scheduled for later this month. The city's annual Juneteenth celebration will take place Saturday, June 21st from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Valley View Middle School, honoring the resilience, freedom and contributions of Black communities and culture.
Bloomington's fifth annual Pride celebration follows on Sunday, June 22nd from 1 to 6 p.m. at Bloomington Civic Plaza. The event is hosted by Bloomington Pride, described as one of the city's newest nonprofit organizations.
