Bloomington Seeks Public Input on Sidewalk Snow Removal Changes
The City of Bloomington is requesting community feedback on proposed changes to sidewalk snow removal routes as officials work to improve winter walking conditions and align operations with street plowing schedules.
The city has been hosting public engagement sessions since March through the Let's Talk Bloomington online forum, virtual open houses and in-person events to discuss potential adjustments to sidewalk snowplowing routes. Under the proposed changes, certain sidewalk plowing routes on low-volume residential roads would be shortened to achieve completion times comparable to street plowing operations.
The modifications would also involve increased enforcement of the existing ordinance requiring property owners to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties. Community members can review the proposed route map and provide feedback through the city's online platform, with the City Council scheduled to make a decision on the route reduction in July.
In other community news, Bloomington will host its annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday, June 21, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Valley View Middle School. The following day, the city's fifth annual Pride Celebration will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. at Bloomington Civic Plaza, hosted by the nonprofit organization Bloomington Pride.
