all right good evening uh this work session of the ISD 279 School Board is being held in the boardroom of the Educational Service Center on Tuesday March 11th 2025 the work session is being audio recorded the recording will be made available on the district website within two business days after the work session is ended with regard to the audio recording our communication staff has asked that we share a friendly reminder that side conversation during the work session are picked up by the recorder and can affect sound quality also conversations during transitions between agenda items are on the recording as well the intent of the Schoolboard work session is to allow for Schoolboard discussion of topics work sessions do not include an opportunity for audience members to address the board to acknowledge attendance this evening I'll ask that all present at the table State their name starting with the person to the left Sarah Mitchell School Board member Kelsey Dawson School Board member Amy General councel Kim H superintendent Brian bass assistant superintendent Keith Tate School Board member Erica fter School Board member T Prince Schoolboard member and I Thomas Brooks uh Schoolboard member and president the uh purpose of the school board work sessions is to build trust and teamwork to exchange information and when applicable to provide Direction in order to facilitate efficient and effective decision making at regular board meetings Dr H will please share your check thank you you uh thank you Vice chair Brooks and chair Prince and members of the board and community members our first item for this evening's work session is the lgbtqia plus history and cultural resolution with a Pacific focus on the pride month advisory lesson we are seeking board guidance on its implementation as the lesson is scheduled for release on April 1st and will be taught during the week of May 13th given recent executive orders we ask the board's consideration and direct Direction regarding the pride month advisory lesson so to provide us with context this evening we have general counsel Amy Moore with us and she will first present an overview of the relevant executive orders and legal landscape Amy thank you good evening um so as Dr H said discussion for the board tonight surrounds the board's lgbtqi plus history and culture resolution specifically paragraphs 1 and 7 um directing the administration to devel Vel and teach curriculum which is taken the form of the advisory lesson the reason we're discussing it tonight is for me to provide you an understanding of executive order uh in particular 14190 and its potential impact on that advisory lesson in part the executive order states that schools may have funding eliminated if it's determined that there is instruction that advances or promotes what the executive order terms gender ideology without a definition in that executive order of what it terms gender ideology in reviewing portions related to gender there is reference …
