The Osseo Area School District presented two updated attendance boundary scenarios at a community information meeting, proposing changes that would affect between 2,000 and 2,600 elementary and middle school students.

Assistant Superintendent Kelly Parpart said the changes are necessary due to significant enrollment imbalances, with substantial growth in northwest portions of the district while some schools operate under capacity. The district serves approximately 21,000 students across eight communities, including Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove.

The two scenarios, designated 1A and 2A, represent adjustments to proposals initially presented in January. Executive Director John Morad explained that both scenarios would eliminate non-contiguous geographic areas and improve feeder structures between elementary and middle schools. Scenario 1A would impact approximately 2,600 students, while Scenario 2A would affect about 2,000 students.

The boundary changes will take effect in fall 2026, coinciding with the opening of a new elementary school in northwest Maple Grove funded through the district's 2023 "Building a Better Future" referendum. One exception involves Crest View Elementary students, who will transition in fall 2025 as the building is repurposed for pre-kindergarten and community programming.

The district will review community feedback from March meetings before announcing final attendance boundaries in May. School Board Director Erica Foster attended the meeting, and officials emphasized that high school boundaries will remain unchanged.
