The Robbinsdale Area Schools Board approved calendar revisions for the 2025-26 school year during their July 7 business meeting, despite a failed motion to postpone the decision for further discussion.

The board voted 4-3 to approve changes moving a compensatory day from May 8 to June 4 and shifting a professional development day from April 24 to May 1. The compensatory day change accommodates national AP testing schedules, while the professional development adjustment provides additional staffing flexibility, according to Executive Director O'Hern.

The vote came after extensive debate about broader calendar issues, including concerns that graduating seniors are receiving approximately 15 hours less instruction than state requirements. CFO Hoheisel explained this shortfall could result in the district losing compensatory aid funding, though the exact financial impact remains unclear.

Director Holmes moved to postpone the vote, citing insufficient background information and concerns raised by staff during the public listening session. "I think those are things that the board should be made aware of before we're voting on items," Holmes said. However, the postponement motion failed 3-4, with Directors Basset, Bowman, Evans Becker, and Hillbrand voting against delay.

The board also moved two employee grievances to arbitration and approved over $5,000 in June donations. In other business, Chair Evans Becker read a summary statement confirming that Superintendent Dr. Terry Stalo received her full 10% salary incentive after the board's evaluation found her work "highly effective or effective in all areas."
