[0:00] Edina Public Schools has long been one [0:03] of the leading lights of Minnesota's [0:05] public education system nationally [0:07] recognized and locally treasured [0:09] its high school is consistently rated as [0:12] the number one college prep school in [0:14] the state [0:15] in 2022 a dino brought its rigorous high [0:19] school learning opportunities to a new [0:21] online school Edina virtual pathway now [0:25] every student in Minnesota has the [0:27] opportunity to learn from the best [0:29] teachers in the state [0:31] Edina virtual pathway is a free online [0:34] school with classes built and taught by [0:36] Edina teachers [0:38] whether a student is looking for a [0:40] full-time online school or just to take [0:43] one or two classes EVP does online [0:45] learning right Edina virtual pathway [0:48] classes are asynchronous this means that [0:51] classes don't meet live at a specific [0:53] time instead students can complete the [0:57] work on their own schedule during the [0:58] day this flexibility can be especially [1:01] helpful for students participating in [1:03] events during the day including [1:05] Athletics or work experiences I I teach [1:17] I think it's a it's a great opportunity [1:19] for kids too I think online should be an [1:21] option for all students I think lots of [1:24] families really need that kind of [1:26] learning and that kind of opportunity [1:28] for their students online classes can [1:30] help prepare a student for Life Beyond [1:33] High School I think it can give them [1:34] flexibility as they're looking at [1:36] college or Community College or evening [1:39] courses if they're working through the [1:40] day so I do think the online can help a [1:43] student as they reach their young [1:45] adulthood EVP courses are not [1:48] independent studies [1:49] teachers post work a week at a time [1:52] students then must complete all of their [1:54] work by the end of the week [1:56] this model provides some flexibility for [1:58] students from day to day but also [2:00] prevents them from procrastinating [2:03] after the week is done teachers grade [2:05] and provide feedback on student work [2:07] helping them to do even better on the [2:09] next learning opportunities [2:11] as teachers I think I had to review kind [2:15] of our process of how students can learn [2:19] and how we can present our materials so [2:21] it's a way for teachers to provide [2:24] information for them that is spot on [2:27] it's timely it's it's it's the most [2:30] important information to provide kids an [2:32] opportunity to learn at the place [2:35] they're at and to take some of the [2:37] structure of the business away from them [2:39] that they can get their coursework done [2:41] when they have time to get it done [2:43] versus living by the Bell all the time [2:45] Medina virtual pathway courses are [2:48] aligned with their in-person [2:49] counterparts while some lessons and the [2:52] way they are taught May differ the [2:54] learning standards covered are the same [2:57] though the online classes are not live [2:59] teachers are of course available to help [3:02] students [3:03] students can email their teachers or [3:05] schedule online one-on-one meetings to [3:07] get help additionally students are [3:10] encouraged to sign up for weekly video [3:12] check-ins with one of our Educators to [3:15] answer questions and make sure that they [3:16] stay on track [3:18] staff in the Edina virtual pathway [3:20] office are just a phone call away during [3:22] the regular school day when students or [3:24] families have questions [3:26] EVP also provides special education and [3:30] English language learner services and [3:32] its teachers honor all 504 [3:34] accommodations [3:36] all full-time Edina High School students [3:39] whether in person or online are eligible [3:42] to participate in after-school clubs or [3:45] to compete as members of our nationally [3:47] recognized athletic teams [3:50] please note that most of these [3:52] opportunities do require students to [3:54] participate in person [3:56] we can do a lot of great things online [3:57] but serving as the goalie for the Edina [4:00] Hornets hockey team is not yet one of [4:02] them [4:03] students select online learning for a [4:05] variety of reasons during lockdown some [4:08] students found that they learned better [4:10] from the comfort of their own home they [4:12] could pause or replay videos of their [4:14] teachers lectures [4:15] for some students anxiety is lower with [4:18] online learning some students are unable [4:20] to attend in person due to matters [4:22] related to their health [4:24] for those students and many others the [4:26] Dyna virtual pathway is here that said [4:29] many students learn better in person [4:31] online learning is best suited for [4:34] students who are self-motivated Edina [4:36] virtual pathway is not an easier School [4:39] than its in-person counterparts and [4:41] requires just as much time and [4:43] dedication as attending in person [4:46] the most successful online students will [4:48] be those who can keep to a schedule and [4:50] be counted on to complete their work [4:52] each day students who can self-advocate [4:55] reaching out to ask a question when they [4:57] could use a hand are also good [4:59] candidates for online learning online [5:01] learning through [5:05] my particular student with the [5:07] flexibility she needed to succeed it [5:10] took the elements of school and it [5:13] brought it into Focus for her she was [5:16] able to silence the external noises of [5:20] the school environment and able to [5:22] really focus on her academics some of [5:26] the good things about online classes is [5:27] that you don't have to worry about right [5:29] or who's going to take you to school you [5:31] just do all your work at home and you [5:33] don't have to like stress over it [5:35] because you can just wake up and do your [5:37] work my favorite class was friend sex [5:41] um it was really fun enjoyable and my [5:43] teacher was really nice like very nice [5:46] he would always help me out every time I [5:47] would send him like an email he would [5:49] like respond so fast and help me out [5:52] with everything I did I learned a lot [5:54] from my online classes thus far this [5:57] video has focused on comprehensive [5:59] students that is those students who [6:01] attend school online full-time Edina [6:04] virtual pathway also offers Standalone [6:06] courses for students who attend other [6:08] schools we welcome Edina High School [6:11] students who wish to take one or more [6:13] classes online as well as students from [6:16] all over the state supplemental classes [6:18] are taken in place of in-person courses [6:21] and are offered free of charge please [6:23] see the school website for a list of [6:25] course offerings some other things to [6:28] know about EVP one [6:31] students may use their own computers but [6:34] for those who need one a dyna virtual [6:36] pathway loans out Chromebooks [6:38] two [6:39] are you a student athlete the NCAA [6:42] recognizes EVP courses [6:45] three a dynavirtual pathway though [6:48] online is a Traditional School in some [6:51] ways students cannot move freely between [6:54] in-person and online learning enrollment [6:57] is by semester and students are expected [6:59] to commit to their entire semester or [7:02] year [7:03] 4. a free and public education is [7:06] provided free of charge by the state of [7:09] Minnesota to all school-aged residents [7:11] for purposes of State rules residence [7:14] means being physically present within [7:16] the state [7:17] students who expect to travel [7:19] extensively are encouraged to reach out [7:21] to learn more about how we can serve you [7:25] attended Edina schools and I never [7:28] imagined that one day I would work for [7:31] them one thing I knew even as a kid was [7:33] that I was attending a really good [7:36] school one thing that I'm really excited [7:38] about with the United virtual pathway is [7:41] that it allows the opportunity for [7:43] students all over the state to enjoy the [7:45] same high quality education that I had [7:48] access to when I was a kid Edina Public [7:50] School's mission is that students will [7:53] discover their possibilities and thrive [7:55] Edina virtual pathway does just that we [7:59] make sure that all of our students [8:00] discovered their possibilities and [8:03] interested in learning more [8:05] ready to sign up for a rigorous online [8:08] Edina education either way the next step [8:11] is to contact us at a dynavirtual [8:13] pathway through our website by
