The Edina Police Department presented its latest addition to the force: a specially trained K9 team consisting of Euro, a Dutch Shepherd, paired with Officer Nick Peterson. The team completed comprehensive training covering agility, obedience, tracking, criminal apprehension, and handler protection before being deployed.

Euro and Officer Peterson are now certified in two key areas: patrol operations and narcotics detection. Their credentials meet the standards set by the US Police K9 Association, a national organization that establishes training and certification requirements for police dogs across the country.

The introduction of the K9 team represents an expansion of the Edina Police Department's capabilities. Police dogs have long been valuable assets to law enforcement agencies, assisting officers in locating suspects, detecting illegal drugs, and protecting officers during dangerous situations. The new team is expected to enhance the department's ability to respond to various public safety needs throughout Edina.
