Edina to Host Free Juneteenth Celebration Thursday
Edina will host its annual Juneteenth community celebration Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Metsold Amphitheater in Centennial Lakes Park, Mayor Jim Huffland announced Wednesday.
The free family event will feature musical performances, food trucks, resource tables and children's activities. The celebration will be held in conjunction with the Edina Farmers Market, with free parking available.
Entertainment will include performances by Dunia Drum and Dance, a Minnesota-based dance company, followed by live jazz and soul music by K john Gant. R&B singer-songwriter Shantel Sings will serve as master of ceremonies and perform as the closing act.
Children's activities will include an interactive Lego build with Young Builders and Designers founder Brian Kelly, and Three Rivers Park District will offer fishing lessons and giveaways. Author Kayla Gant of KP Comics will sign copies of her book "Ebanese Friendship Adventure," with 100 free copies available for children.
The event will also feature 24 resource and information tables. Huffland encouraged community members to attend the celebration.
