Minneapolis launches fifth annual Black Business Week celebration
Minneapolis city leaders announced the fifth annual Black Business Week, running July 24-31, 2025, to spotlight and support the city's Black-owned businesses. Mayor Jacob Frey, City Council Member Andrea Jenkins, and City Council President Elliott Payne jointly promoted the initiative as a way to build economic power and equity across Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis City Council highlighted Black Business Week 2025 as a citywide effort to celebrate and strengthen Black entrepreneurship. The week-long event aims to connect Black-owned businesses with customers, investors, and resources while emphasizing their importance to the city's economic future and overall prosperity.
George Floyd Square in Ward 8 was specifically highlighted as a focal point for the celebration. City leaders pointed to the square as a symbol of the Black community's resilience and creativity, noting that Black businesses thriving there deserve sustained investment and support from the city.
The initiative reflects a broader city commitment to economic equity. By dedicating a full week to promoting Black-owned businesses, Minneapolis leaders are signaling that supporting these enterprises is central to building a more equitable future for all residents. The announcement came during a regular City Council meeting, indicating the initiative has official city backing.
Community members interested in supporting Black-owned businesses or learning more about Black Business Week can expect promotional activities and business spotlights throughout the designated week in late July.
