Minneapolis Announces Fifth Annual Black Business Week
Minneapolis officials announced the fifth annual Black Business Week 2025, scheduled to run from July 24-31, during a promotional event at George Floyd Square.
Mayor Jacob Frey, City Council Member Andrea Jenkins and City Council President Elliott Payne participated in the announcement, emphasizing the week's role in supporting Black-owned businesses throughout the city. The officials highlighted George Floyd Square as a significant location for the announcement, noting its importance as a hub for Black business development.
Jenkins, who represents Ward 8 where George Floyd Square is located, said the area reflects "the resilience of our Black community, with culture and creativity." She added that the square "deserves lasting investment."
The week will feature multiple events including business tours, workshops, a resource fair and a pop-up market. City officials emphasized that the programming is designed to connect entrepreneurs and provide learning opportunities for business development.
Payne stressed that supporting Black-owned businesses "builds lasting financial power, not just in the Black community, but across all of Minneapolis." Officials encouraged residents to support Black-owned businesses beyond the designated week.
