Minnetrista Resident Advocates for Wood Edge Road Paving, Seeks Clarity on Assessments
Paul Lang brought his neighborhood's long-standing plea for paved roads to the City Council, initiating discussion on project scope and potential homeowner assessments.
A Minnetrista resident appealed to the City Council during its recent meeting, advocating for the paving of Wood Edge Road and raising questions about the financial assessments that homeowners could face. Paul Lang, a resident of the unpaved stretch, highlighted the unique situation of his street, which he described as surrounded by modern infrastructure but lacking essential surfacing.
So again, welcome everyone here this evening as well as those watching on YouTube later on.
Lang described Wood Edge Road as a "little tiny road that's surrounded by tar, pavement, sidewalks," noting that "we're the only road in the whole area that doesn't have tar on it." He informed the council that the estimated half-mile stretch had previously been slated for paving but was subsequently removed from a larger project due to budget cuts. The original project, he recalled, had been scaled back significantly from an initial $8.8 million proposal.
This was on slated with the project right now. But when everything got eliminated off cuz we were at was it 8.8 8 million and then you guys wanted to knock it down to a third of that. So, a lot of stuff got taken off and that was one of them that got taken off too.
A primary concern for Lang and his neighbors was the potential cost of an assessment and the timeline for receiving this critical financial information. He inquired if residents would be notified of the projected assessment amount well in advance of any project moving forward. He also suggested that combining the short stretch of Wood Edge Road with another project could lead to cost savings due to economies of scale.
If you do put a plan together and figure out what that assessment would be, would that be something that would be ahead of time? It might go out to everybody in the next three months. Here's what it might be or the next just so we know that.
