The Brooklyn Park Planning Commission approved three development projects during its April 9 meeting, clearing the way for a business center expansion, new fire station construction, and an industrial building.

The commission unanimously approved a preliminary plat and two variances for the North Park Business Center at Highway 169 and 109th Avenue. The 32-acre project will create two lots with new public roads, including Zealand Avenue and 108th Court with a reduced cul-de-sac. Staff noted a car wash application is pending for the corner location.

Commissioners also approved a site plan for the new Central Fire Station at 8600 Zane Avenue. Fire Chief Sean Conway said the facility will initially house five to seven emergency vehicles and incorporates health and wellness features for firefighters, including contamination reduction systems and natural lighting. The building is designed to be solar-ready.

The third approval involved a preliminary plat and site plan for 610 Junction Building 4, an 8,800-square-foot speculative industrial building near Highway 169 and 93rd Avenue. The facility can accommodate single or multiple tenants with parking and loading dock access.

The commission also adopted revised bylaws clarifying quorum requirements for the 11-member body, which includes two unfilled young adult positions. The changes eliminate confusing language about public hearings and specify that six members constitute a quorum for conducting business.
