Solid Waste Staff Report

Sustainability Staff Report

Rachel Lindholm, Sustainability Coordinator, reported that the Climate Action Plan was approved by the council and promotion has begun. She also recapped a successful Earth Day staff clean-up at Veterans Park, mentioned upcoming community Earth Day events, and noted 24 trees were left from a tree sale.

Ash Tree Management Policy Update

Commissioner Amanda Kueper informed the commission of a policy change: the City will no longer treat boulevard Ash trees and is now encouraging residents to treat their own trees for health and pest management.

Transportation Commission Staff Presentation

Matt Hardegger, Transportation Engineer, delivered a presentation covering the role and functions of the Transportation Commission, its funding sources, the design process for transportation projects, and an overview of recent and upcoming projects.

Farmers Market Tabling Sign-up

Rachel Lindholm announced that she would create a sign-up sheet for commissioners interested in tabling at the Farmers Market, which is scheduled to begin on the first Saturday in May, indicating plans for public outreach.

School Outreach on Sustainable Living

Commissioners Craig Heinen and Rose Thompson reported on an upcoming event where approximately 20 students from the Richfield High School Green Team will visit Heinen's residence to learn about sustainable living practices, demonstrating youth engagement in sustainability.

Social Media and Project Documentation Proposal

A proposal, presented by Rachel Lindholm on behalf of Ray Sookchain, suggested that commissioners take photos and provide summaries of Sustainability Commission events for future promotional activities and improved documentation.

Community Services Commission (CSC) Report

Margaux Meyer, the CSC liaison, delivered a report outlining updates on parks budgets, planned playground enhancements, and the ongoing progress of the city's parks master plan, indicating inter-commission activities.
