Annual Election of Officers
The Advisory Board of Health conducted its annual election process. Kirsten Norby was nominated for Secretary, Kelly Hauer for Chair, and Rebecca Case for Vice Chair. The board noted that these selections would be subject to further review at the next meeting.
Review of 2026 Draft Workplan
The board reviewed its proposed workplan for 2026, which included upcoming discussions on cannabis and Kratom for March 16th, plans for food safety award approvals and tours of a dispensary and the Edina fire station for April 20th. Additionally, a joint meeting with Bloomington and Edina, and participation in Penn Fest with a potential Kratom survey booth were noted for May 18th.
Kratom Discussion and Policy Development
A comprehensive discussion was held regarding Kratom, addressing concerns from small businesses about potential sales restrictions and reporting requirements. The board highlighted the current lack of data on Kratom's local prevalence and health effects, and the challenge of regulating it due to its classification as a supplement. A decision was made to prioritize community information dissemination as the initial step before considering any city-level regulations.
