The Panoway Lakewalk project, which began in 2011 as a community vision for the city's most important natural asset, has been completed with the construction of accessible boardwalks and landscaping improvements along Lake Minnetonka's shore. The project represents an extraordinary collaborative effort, with over 300 individuals, families, corporations, and foundations collectively pledging or donating more than $3.3 million to bring the vision to life.

The lakewalk features boardwalks built with canary wood and concrete pilings, along with extensive tree plantings and shrub installations designed to enhance the natural shoreline experience. City officials emphasized that the project's success should be measured by whether everyone—regardless of age or mobility level—can enjoy walking along the shoreline and experiencing what they called Wayzata's greatest natural resource.

The council's discussion of the project served as a celebratory update rather than an official vote or action item. Speakers highlighted how the initiative ensures that current residents and future generations of Wayzata families will have the opportunity to learn, play, and experience Lake Minnetonka in an accessible way. The project reflects the city's commitment to creating inclusive public spaces that serve the entire community.
