Wayzata Launches Advisory Committee to Shape 2050 Comprehensive Plan
Planning Commission advanced the formation of a citizen committee that will help craft the city's long-range blueprint for land use, housing and transportation.
The Wayzata Planning Commission took its first formal step toward the city's next long-range planning effort on March 10, advancing the formation of a 2050 Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee that will help guide how the lakeside city grows over the coming decades.
City planner Anna Keyser presented the item to commissioners, outlining the scope of the comprehensive plan and the role residents would play in shaping it. The commission's action on the item passed unanimously.
The comp plan itself is a very broad, wide-ranging, um long-range planning document. Really to kind of set up the framework and vision for the city of Wayzata of how we want to look the city to look in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years from now.
A decade-long cycle
Because the plan sets the framework that zoning and development decisions are measured against, city staff said the advisory committee's work would touch nearly every aspect of municipal policy, from where new housing is permitted to how streets and public spaces are designed.
Commissioners discussed the makeup and purpose of the committee, which is intended to bring residents into the drafting process alongside staff, the Planning Commission and the City Council. The comprehensive plan ultimately returns to the Planning Commission for review and to the City Council for adoption.
