The Wayzata City Council approved a mixed-use development at 200 Lake Street East and awarded contracts totaling nearly $2 million for the Clapbridge Park renovation project during its May 6 meeting.

The council unanimously approved the planned unit development for 200 Lake Street East after requiring the developer to include full massing breaks between all six building cores. The project will include residential units and commercial space along the lakefront property. Council members said the massing breaks were necessary to prevent the appearance of one massive building when viewed from Lake Minnetonka.

For the Clapbridge Park project, the council awarded the site improvement contract to Odessa 2 for $730,971, the warming house renovation to Ebert Companies for $516,700, and approved playground equipment purchases from Midwest Playscapes for $457,847. The total project cost of approximately $1.97 million came in significantly under the original $2.687 million estimate, leaving the parks and trails capital improvement fund with a positive balance rather than the anticipated deficit.

The council also approved a special event permit for Hi-Fi on the Lake concerts at Makanda Restaurant. Event organizer Aaron Switz said the concerts would be much smaller than previous electronic dance music events, expecting 750 to 1,000 attendees each night during the Wayzata Art Experience weekend.

During the public forum, the Heritage Preservation Board presented its 2025 award to Alden Adams for restoration work at 255-257 Central Avenue South. The council also introduced new police department employees Brena Growth and Lauren Tholan, who joined the department in December 2024.
