North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School Board Deepens Community Ties Through Active Engagement and Open Communication
District leaders reinforce commitment to transparency and direct participation in school events, inviting greater public involvement in decision-making processes.
The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School Board reaffirmed its dedication to fostering strong community connections and maintaining transparent communication channels, with members actively engaging in a variety of school events and encouraging public participation in district affairs. Discussions during the January 28, 2025, regular board meeting underscored the importance of board visibility and accessible governance.
A key aspect of the board's approach to community engagement involves making its decision-making processes as open as possible. This commitment extends to informal work study sessions where much of the preliminary work for board decisions takes place. Director Notari highlighted the accessibility of these sessions to the public.
Some of most of the work gets done during our study session. So, and those are open to the public as well. So, individuals are invited to come and listen in to how decisions are made.
Active Presence in School Life
Beyond formal meetings, board members demonstrated their commitment by actively participating in numerous school events across the district. This direct engagement provides valuable firsthand insights into student experiences and educational programs. Members reported visiting Tartan High School for a CNA classroom tour, attending a debate tournament where Tartan and North High students competed at Roosevelt High School Minneapolis, and cheering on the Tartan football team during homecoming against Mounds View.
The board's involvement extended to cultural celebrations and academic recognition. Members visited North High School for its Hispanic Heritage celebration, attended musical productions at both Tartan and North high schools, and participated in student of the month presentations at John Glenn. One board member even shared experiences from a kindergartner's field trip to Afton Apple Orchards, underscoring a broad engagement across all grade levels.
