Member Tyson expressed concerns about the agenda content, specifically questioning the priority of a vendor list review over safety and security, especially with school starting soon. She advocated for more collaboration and better communication in agenda setting. Chair Rebeline clarified the vendor list was a commitment from the previous year and that safety and security would be addressed in September. The discussion also touched on the adequacy of notice for agenda items and the appropriate forum (e.g., finance committee) for reviewing certain documents like the vendor list.

Gail Gilman presented an overview of the board's self-evaluation results, focusing on the stages of board development and the standards for board leadership. The board discussed their current dynamic, with members acknowledging a 'storming' phase characterized by a lack of trust and communication, and a need to improve 'Conduct and Ethics' and 'Accountability.' There was debate on how to interpret the 'always' and 'never' responses in the survey, and a collective desire to identify actionable improvements. The discussion also touched on the importance of an annual superintendent evaluation process and regular policy review.

I you know I would like to see more collaboration and better communication on what's on the agenda. Um tonight, um I'm looking at 71 and review the vendor list. And I just feel at this time of year with school on the doorstep that we could be looking at safety and security or other items like that.
We did discuss the vendor list last August, uh, which is why it came back again this August. That was a commitment I made.
I just think more notice and more communication and collaboration around what goes on the agenda would be very helpful for all of us to work together.
The last time that the board took it, you probably noticed, was in, I think it was 2022. it was shortly after the strategic plan had been um wrapped up and so you are probably due to do this again and have a discussion and I think it may tie into a next strategic plan as well.
So the storming part that can some boards can just stay in that phase. They're never going to get around the corner. Yeah. But yeah, so I just wonder is and is that kind of a I mean I guess every board's different, but um is there usually a time frame kind of in most boards or I that you've worked with or I mean just curious how that works.
I see this board pivoting between these five quite often different topics we slide into that performing. And then we have, you know, a board member leave and now we're in a deforming position where we're trying to figure out how we're going to move into forming.
I'm just struggling a little bit with all of a sudden kind of, you know, humba and and and you know, let's really work together. You know, there's a lot of stuff behind the scenes that has happened that I think probably a lot of people aren't aware of.
I I think this question would be always if it were if it read treat all individuals including staff, students and community members with respect. I feel like everybody at this table does that without exception.
