Oakdale announces summer events, closes offices for Juneteenth

The Oakdale City Council highlighted upcoming community celebrations and announced that city offices will close June 19 to observe Juneteenth, while emergency services remain available.

The Oakdale City Council's Monday morning meeting focused on community announcements rather than policy decisions, highlighting several items of interest to residents over the coming weeks.

City offices will close Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Emergency services will continue operating normally during the closure, and city staff will return to work Friday, June 20.

The council announced two major community events. The first summer concert will feature the band Salsa Del Soul at Walton Park Band Shell on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Following that, Oakdale Summerfest will run June 23-28 and will include a medallion hunt, parade, and concerts. The council extended appreciation to the Oakdale Summerfest Community Organization for organizing the week-long celebration.

The council also opened nominations for the Oakdale Acorn Award, which recognizes properties with outstanding landscaping. The award has three categories: residential, business/commercial, and public properties. Residents and business owners interested in nominating a property can submit nominations through June 30 via the oakdalemn.gov website.
