Oakdale announces summer events, police unveil new patch design
The Oakdale City Council highlighted several upcoming community events and initiatives during its Monday meeting, including a redesigned police uniform patch inspired by changes to Minnesota's state symbols.
The council announced a series of events designed to engage residents across different age groups and interests. The Oakdale Farmers Market will continue its weekly operations on Wednesdays from 2 PM to 6 PM in the City Hall parking lot, with organizers offering a weekly vendor basket giveaway to draw visitors.
The Oakdale Fire and Police Departments are partnering to host a senior safety seminar on July 17 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at City Hall. The event targets residents aged 55 and older and will provide essential safety information and recommendations tailored to their needs.
A Red Cross blood drive is scheduled for July 18 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Discovery Center. The council encouraged residents interested in donating to sign up in advance online at redcrossblood.org.
In other business, the Oakdale Police Department unveiled a redesigned uniform patch. The new design was prompted by recent changes to Minnesota's state flag and seal. A committee developed the patch to feature the city's historic Oak tree, a subdued U.S. flag, and stars that commemorate the original 1968 patch design. The redesign maintains a connection to the department's history while adapting to the state's updated symbols.
