Oakdale Launches Acorn Award for Outstanding Landscaping

Meeting date: May 26, 2025
Published Sep 8, 2025

The City of Oakdale is accepting nominations for its Acorn Award program, which recognizes properties with excellent landscaping, Mayor Zabel announced during Monday's Memorial Day observance.

Residents can nominate any property in Oakdale, including their own, through June 30. Winning properties will receive visits from the City Council and recognition at a fall council meeting. The mayor encouraged residents to consider nominating their favorite landscaped properties as flowers bloom and grass fills in for the season.

The announcement came during the mayor's Monday Morning Minute communication, delivered while city offices remained closed for Memorial Day. Mayor Zabel honored military members who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and said their courage should inspire residents to live with purpose and gratitude.

The mayor also reminded residents and businesses about the city's odd-even watering schedule, which allows odd-numbered addresses to water on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Watering is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. when water loss is greatest.

City offices reopened Tuesday following the Memorial Day holiday.
