The Lakeville Planning Commission unanimously approved two development requests during its May 8 meeting, including an outdoor safe display permit and a preliminary plat for a new Chase Bank location.

The commission granted South Metro Safe and Vault an interim use permit to display a large yellow safe on a trailer in the parking lot of their Pleasant Hills location at 16350 Kenrich Loop. Business owner Mr. Borchard explained the safe is available for purchase and serves as a display item for customers. The permit allows outdoor sales not exceeding 30% of the business's leased floor area and takes up one parking space.

Commissioners also approved a preliminary plat for Heritage Commons 9th Edition, which will create two commercial lots on 202nd Street near city hall. The development includes a 3,400-square-foot Chase Bank with drive-through ATM service and a bypass lane. The bank building will feature three colors of brick, cast stone and glass materials, with design elements consistent with other Heritage Commons buildings. A second lot remains available for future commercial development.

The meeting began with the swearing in of new Planning Commissioner John Sweeney. Following the business items, commissioners elected Christine Zimmer as chair and Scott Ike as vice chair for the coming term.

Both approved items will proceed to the May 19 city council meeting for final consideration.
