Bloomington unveils wellness center design, seeks community input
The Bloomington City Council presented draft designs for a new Community Health and Wellness Center on February 12, inviting residents to review plans and provide feedback on what officials say will be the city's first major publicly-owned indoor gathering space.
The city released schematic design plans for the Community Health and Wellness Center, which project representatives described as being at the "halfway point" in the design process. According to officials, the center will serve as an inclusive community hub where residents of all ages, abilities, and income levels can socialize, participate in programs, exercise, and attend cultural events.
"The community center is going to be really exciting for the city of Bloomington because it's going to be one of our first and only community-owned indoor spaces where anyone in the community can come and either just hang out and socialize, take a program, exercise, be a part of a fun activity, a cultural event," a project representative said.
Residents can review the designs and submit comments through the city's "Let's Talk Bloomington" online platform through March 1st. An in-person public review event was held on February 8th. The city is still working out design details before moving forward with the project.
In other business, the council announced two new initiatives aimed at improving city services. Bloomington residents can now submit non-emergency public safety requests—such as noise complaints or parking issues—through an online form that connects directly to dispatch. The new system includes multi-language support and text message follow-ups, helping keep emergency lines clear for urgent calls.
The council also launched a call for artists to design a mural for the Bloomington Ice Garden vestibule. The mural will celebrate the rink's history and importance to the community. Artists can submit applications through March 14th, with the selected artist creating a digital design for installation.
