Edina is not alone in this approach. The transition aligns the city with the majority of other municipalities in Hennepin County, including nearby Maple Grove, which is also moving its assessing services to the county. Hennepin County already provides assessment services to other areas, including Fort Snelling and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, demonstrating the county's capacity to handle the expanded workload.

The council voted unanimously to approve the consolidation, with no recorded dissent. The transition will occur over the next year, allowing time for the county to prepare for the shift and for Edina's assessing staff to transition to new roles or seek employment elsewhere. The move represents a significant administrative change for the city but reflects a broader trend toward regional consolidation of municipal services to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
