Edina breaks ground on new police training facility
The City of Edina and partner agencies celebrated the start of construction on a new tactical training building at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility on March 15. The 6,524-square-foot facility will serve law enforcement agencies across the region.
City officials and representatives from partner agencies gathered on Brar Boulevard to mark the groundbreaking of a new Tactical training building at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility. The L-shaped structure will provide flexible, customizable space designed to accommodate various law enforcement training scenarios.
The facility will be used by multiple agencies, including the Edina Police Department, as well as law enforcement from Bloomington, Eden Prairie, and the Metropolitan Airports Commission. The building is designed to support realistic training exercises, including building searches and use-of-force techniques that officers need to practice safely before deployment.
Construction is expected to be completed by winter 2025. The new building represents an investment in regional law enforcement training capabilities and reflects the collaborative approach the agencies take to professional development and public safety preparation.
