The Edina Community Foundation recognized two Edina Police Department members for exceptional service. Record Specialist Kimberly Tubs received the 2023 Public Safety Employee of the Year award for implementing a new 911 dispatch system and helping the department navigate staffing transitions during two homicide investigations. Sergeant Darren Cesak earned the 2023 Mike Satari Officer of the Year award for his off-duty heroism during a shooting incident and for overseeing the investigations division, where he conducted numerous background checks.

The council also discussed a special election to fill a vacant Hennepin County Commissioner seat representing District 6. All six candidates in the race are from Edina. A primary election is scheduled for April 30th to narrow the field to two finalists, followed by a general election on May 14th. Because of the compressed timeline for absentee voting, the city is encouraging voters to drop off mail ballots at Edina City Hall.

In other business, the council highlighted the city's three-year-old road salt storage facility, which can hold up to 5,000 tons. The facility allows Edina to buy salt strategically and store unused supplies for future winters, protecting the city budget against unpredictable winter weather and rising salt prices. The savings from this approach have nearly covered the cost of building the shelter.

The council also promoted the upcoming season at the Edina Aquatic Center at Rosland Park, which opens June 6th. The facility offers a lap pool, surf simulator, water slides, a zipline, and children's water play areas, plus a dry playground. Early bird season pass pricing is available through April 30th, with passes offering the best value for visitors planning at least seven visits.
