Edina Police Citizens Academy Opens Fall Registration
The Edina Police Department is accepting applications for its fall Citizens Academy program, with about half the spots still available for the 13-week course beginning Aug. 28.
Mayor Jim Hufflin announced the program during his July 16 Mayor's Minute, encouraging community members to register for the hands-on law enforcement experience. The course runs through Nov. 20, meeting Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Edina Police Department or South Metro Public Training Facility.
Participants will engage in mock traffic stops, tour the Hennepin County Jail, meet police K-9 teams and learn about metro area drug task force operations. The curriculum also includes proactive defense tactics, SWAT team demonstrations and criminal investigation procedures.
The program costs $25 and is open to residents and workers in Edina who are 21 or older. Applicants must pass a background check, with applications processed in order of receipt. Priority goes to those who have not previously attended the academy.
Registration is available at edinamn.gov/citizensacademy. The program receives support from the Edina Crime Prevention Fund.

[0:04] mayor's minute for Wednesday, July 16,
[0:07] 2025. Have you ever wondered what it's
[0:10] like to work in law enforcement? About
[0:12] half the spots for the Adina Police
[0:14] Department Citizens Academy are still
[0:16] open for enrollment. The program starts
[0:18] August 28th and runs for 13 weeks
[0:21] through November 20th, 2025. People 21
[0:25] and older who work or live in Edina can
[0:27] register for the weekly course to get a
[0:30] firsthand look at how the Adina Police
[0:32] Department operates. Classes are held
[0:34] 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursdays at the Adina
[0:37] Police Department or the South Metro
[0:39] Public Training Facility. Participants
[0:41] will be able to participate in mock
[0:44] traffic stops, tour the Henipin County
[0:46] Jail, meet one of the Adina police K-9
[0:49] teams, learn about the metro area drug
[0:51] task force work, learn proactive defense
[0:54] tactics, get a close look at Adino SWAT
[0:57] team, and follow the course of a
