The Brooklyn Park City Council voted Monday to order the abatement of a hazardous property on Irving Avenue North, marking the culmination of an enforcement case that began nearly eight years ago.

The council unanimously approved a resolution directing the abatement of 9115 Irving Avenue North, where environmental health officials have documented extensive exterior storage violations since April 2017. The property owner, Max Fauche, attended the meeting but did not contest the city's recommendation to pursue civil court action.

Michelle Peterson, neighborhood health supervisor, told the council the city has exhausted both traditional and non-traditional enforcement methods, including using sentenced-to-serve workers to help load items and establishing a mediation agreement in 2019. The case has generated 21 complaints from residents over the years.

The abatement process will proceed through Hennepin County District Court under Minnesota state statute, giving Fauche 20 days to respond or comply voluntarily. If the property owner contests the order, a court hearing will determine whether the city can proceed with cleanup at the owner's expense.

In other business, the council approved THC and tobacco licenses for Puff Puff Smokes LLC on Brooklyn Boulevard and received annual reports from the Planning Commission and Community Long Range Improvement Commission outlining their 2025 work plans.
