Advisory Planning Commission Recommends Approval for Church Subdivision
Eagan's Advisory Planning Commission unanimously recommended preliminary subdivision approval for the Church of Saint John Newman, advancing plans to divide its Deerwood Drive property into two lots.
The Church of Saint John Newman took a significant step forward in its property plans on June 23, 2026, as the Eagan Advisory Planning Commission unanimously recommended preliminary subdivision approval. The decision, reached during an efficient meeting, allows the church to proceed with its proposal to divide its 4.23-acre property located at 1330 Deerwood Drive into two distinct parcels.
Mr. Zajac, representing the applicant, presented the details of the request to the commission. He outlined the core of the church’s application.
Saint John Newman Church is requesting approval of a preliminary subdivision to create two lots on property located at 1330 Deerwood Drive.
The proposed subdivision involves splitting off a 1.14-acre parcel, designated as Lot Two, from the northeastern portion of the property. The remaining 3.09-acre parcel, Lot One, will retain the existing church building. Mr. Zajac confirmed that both proposed lots meet the minimum dimensional and area standards stipulated for the Public Facilities zoning district, which is the current zoning designation of the property.
The recommendation for approval was contingent on the application of specific conditions. While not detailed during the public session, these conditions—numbered one through eleven—are outlined in the staff report and would apply upon approval.
I'd like to recommend approval of a preliminary subdivision. Saint John Newman's second edition, to create two lots upon approximately 4.23 acres located at 1330 Deerwood Drive. And if approved, the following conditions. One through 11 be applied.
Before the commission proceeded to a vote, a public hearing was opened for the application. With no community members coming forward to speak, the public hearing was swiftly closed. Following this, the commission deliberated briefly before casting their votes, which resulted in a unanimous 6-0 recommendation for approval.
