Wayzata Council Honors Volunteer, Reviews 2024 Accomplishments
The Wayzata City Council recognized longtime community volunteer Marilyn Borg Babcock for over 30 years of service during its Feb. 4 meeting, highlighting her contributions to parks preservation, historic conservation and environmental initiatives.
Babcock, a founding member of the Parks and Trails Board, was instrumental in preserving the Big Woods, establishing the Post Office Park public art installation and organizing numerous community events including Earth Day celebrations and maple tree tapping programs. The Wayzata Yacht Club requested to modify their slip configuration by converting up to 12 buoys to physical slips, without increasing the total number of approved slips (186). Staff recommended noting that the modifications maintain the allowable slip count and minimize the lake footprint. Council members added a comment about increased safety with fixed slips. The request was approved with these comments to be forwarded to the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD).
